‘SPPU Policy Research & Analysis Project: Sindhudurg District Development Plan’

Based on 2 themes: Inclusivity and Sustainability

Identified areas of development:

1. Basic Infrastructure:

1.1 Road: Road connectivity is a major challenge in the district. Both Central and State governments’ public works programmes should expand its coverage more than before in this district.

1.2 Airport: Chipi Airport should be made fully functional to promote trade from the district.

1.3 Cold storage: Cold storage facilities should be built to promote aquaculture and fishing present in the district. To facilitate export of fish from the district, a Port should be built.

1.4 Electricity: There is a large scope of expanding electricity generation from renewable resources.

2. Agriculture and Food Processing

Sustainable agriculture with variety of crops can be produced in the district. Research undertaken in the agricultural institutions should reach the farmers so that they can expand their levels of production. Given the fact that climate change, natural calamities are adversely affecting the produce, type, areas and conditions of crop insurance should be restudied. To boost the food processing sector according skills training should be given to the people.

3. Tourism & Hospitality Sector

Unexplored beaches other than Devbagh and Tarkarli should be developed. Sustainable tourism should be highlighted in the district so that it shouldn’t harm the natural resources. Skill training for the hospitality sector should be given to individuals.

4. Health

There is an absolute need of health infrastructure such as hospitals, testing labs, primary health care units in the district. There is also the need to have medical colleges in the district.

5. Women Employment

Employment generation schemes should be launched specifically for women in the district.

6. Technology Advancement
